Updating VMWare Workstation on Linux

May 17th, 2009 by Felix-Nicolai Müller

If you have troube updating an old VMWare Workstation to the most recent version you might run into trouble if you are using Linux.

When you do:
rpm -Uhv VMware-Workstation-6.5.2-156735.i386.rpm
You might get:
error: Failed dependencies:
VMwareWorkstation conflicts with VMware-Workstation-6.5.2-156735.i386

This can be easily resolved by uninstalling the old version of VMWare Workstation prior to the update. This can be done using your favorite package manager.

Hope this helps
Felix

For many users it is senseless to put effort and time into understanding KDE4 until they realize it does not do the job for them. So what are the most common alternatives and their pros and cons?
